Tolerances are the maximum permissible difference from a given dimension. Dimensions can be either Linear or Geometric. The examples opposite are tolerances for a linear dimension of 32mm. Specified, in millimetres, as 10 ± 0.02 then the part will be acceptable if the dimension is manufactured to an actual size between 9.98 and 10.02 mm.
